There is no provision on the older units (HVL-F36AM, HVL-F56AM, 3600HS-D, 5600HS-D) to define the flash in groups. It looks as if an on-camera HVL-F58M flash is classed as one group, with Remote and Remote2 as the other groups. The built-in pop up flash can not control the groups or ratios. To make full use of this system you are looking at a $1,000 investment in three flash heads. Paul Genge of Sony UK confirms that although the HVL-F42AM manual makes no reference to functions enabled by the 58 model, it can be used in ratio setups with the 58 as controller.

If it is like David says then is not worth for anybody to buy any old flash 36am/56am but only the new 42am & 58am or wait until the first reviews

I think he HVLl-F58am will have 2 separate protocol to communicate with the other flashes /older.

If you use the HVL-f58am with HVL-f42am-HVL-F56am-HVL-F36am it will send 2 types of signal to control them. If you want to use the A900 with out the flash attached with this i think Sony will show us also a remote controller only for A900.

The A700 will have almost the same co ability like A900 but you have to use the pop up flash.

It will not be like dynax 9 & dynax 7 where they hat the same functions.They will give A900 more flexibility
