BBC news is reporting that trading in Jessops shares has been suspended.

The shops will continue trading as normal.

Was in a Jessops store this afternoon. Noticed a lack of stock and no stock in window display. T'was a bit quiet, 2 x staff and me, and overheard the manager, on the phone, to another store manager. Said that they have to individually have meetings to form an action plan to move their store forwards. The manager was having difficulty convincing the other person not to be too worried, sounded very much like they are all going to need a change of underwear.
Being in a retail enviroment with previous managerial not a position I would want to be in.
Worse still is discussing company business on the shop floor!
Doesn't bode well....

Doesn't surpise me the slightest. They had serious trouble a couple of years back and they had to close quite a few shops in London. More and more people buy their stuff online as it is usually cheaper- no wonder these shops can't survive.

They don't add value and they don't stock useful small items so the only reason to go there is to test what you want to buy before ordering online.

I'm afraid my experience of Jessops has been that whilst the staff have been very helpful and friendly the only stock (dslr camera/lenses) has been that on display. I bought an a350 early last year which turned out to be the display one as they did not hold them in stock!?  I accepted it with a heavily discounted 3yr warranty. The same was true for the 70-300G I bought a couple of months ago.  My A550 came from the Warehouse Express and was brand new and factory sealed. I understand that holding stock is 'wasted' money but today's customer want their purchase's to be brand new and not handled and tested by an unknown number of previous customers.
My thoughts anyway

I agree Phil, one of the reasons you might buy from a shop is that you get the product straight away but if it is a display model, or if you still have to order it to the shop, the shop has not provided any value or service.

I'm a little puzzled by all of this, as I have to say my local J's on the whole is pretty good, there are some excellent members of staff in there who know their stuff (for a change) and yes there's a couple of numpties as well, but if I was scoring it on marks out of 10 for service I would probably give it an 8.5., for their pricing I would give it about 4 out of 10. My A350 battery from Amazon £32.61 inc p&p in store price at Jessops £65.00 this is where Jessops need to start getting more competitive imo....
