Okay, rant time. Please don't ban me.

I think this thread should be deleted and renamed as 'Macro', or 'Flowers in Focus' or 'Big Bugs', or something as lame. At least make it restricting, becuase there is no direction here.

If Ronin is such a macro fan then why have a competition that isn't strictly macro, as in small stuff? That's nonsensical. I will not post an image in this thread as it stands.

And why is that competition paragraph that's sitting at the top of the forum so poorly written? That's an official message for everyone! Whoever sees this website reads that ghastly paragraph, if they even can. Sorry, but it's a sloppy piece of work. Stuff like that makes this forum look very amatuer, which is a shame.

There should also be a plan for a name change to include Alpha/Sony and a red colour palette for the boards, if not now then in the future.

That is me being brutally honest. Cruel to be kind.

I'm not saying I can design websites, but if I was a moderator, or Gaz, I'd likely tidy this place up a bit and dust a few corners the next time I had the opportunity. Perhaps I'd also kick all the useless, nameless members that haven't signed in for 6 months for a start, which is 80% of them.

Thoughtfull post, ISO.

I don't really need to add much other than I agree completely and my thoughts are the same.

I am considering pulling my images from the contest threads because the way they are being presented is just silly. We need:

1) firm dates
2) no "nice picture" comments in submission threads
3) make some limitations on when photos were made
4) focused categories and entries
5) general rules and guidelines (well written)

I also think the forum could use a color change as pix don't look the best posted against this scheme. Not a great big thing but it would help draw new members. Well written official posts would also be helpful in bringing sophisticated members into the forum.

I like this place as that is why I post here but I have been thinking the same stuff ISO posted for a while now. I know this is just a hobby and consumes alot of time but if you want to grow your baby the time is now.

Anyway, happy shooting!

try www.sonydslrs.com :) name and colour of forum may change in the future....

can we keep non challenge entry posts to the other forums, or this will turn into a rant thread instead of a photo thread :)

all other comments noted.....

All I wanted to do with the challenges was get more interest going in the site. I deliberately kept the themes very broad so it was more accessible to every one. I didn’t want to lay down any hard rules as it was supposed to be a relatively relaxed competition.

Every thing open artistic interpretation. Use a bit of imagination, and don’t get to hung up on rules its only supposed to be a bit of fun. I think it is funny what they posted.

I guess a close-up of my cat taking a crap qualifies too. Ok, let me go get that shot...can't wait to post that close-up.

come on guys, calm down...... it's ronin's challenge (not a contest) and he chose the subject. If you don't want to enter then don't, but don't moan about it, especially in the middle of the challenge thread.

If you have a suggestion for a challenge, let me know, it's not just down to Ronin to set them.

If you have comments about how this forum is run, then there is a forum specifically for these comments and if you have any points of concern, just pm me or email, I want your comments, as long as they are constructive.

Actually, whilst you guys got right into that 'Moon' theme, I wasn't interested. The 'I see red' was brilliant for the forum, as people who weren't interested in the moon, could now participate. Again, a broad theme could engage members' activity. Perhaps, refining the title, 'up close and personal' or something.

I'm sorry if I seem imposing, but could we move this thread to 'Digital forum Site Comments' forum, lock it, and start 'Close Up' (or something similar) again?

Here's a picture just for the sake of having a picture in a picture thread... My interpretation of 'Close up'

Hi, no offense intended but that picture does not look like a close-up to me. That's the problem with having such a broad topic. To me, your shot looks like a vertical wide shot.

I don't mean to be picking on your pick or your post but it does illustrate the general problem with a topic that is not quite narrow enough.

Happy shooting!
