Wireless question: HVL20 and 42x2, or 42+58?
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:32:41 PM »
Hello!

I have an HVL20 on my A900 to trigger my HVL42 off-camera. It works well, and is a lot of fun. I'd like to get another flash for off-camera use, and I am wondering if another HVL42 is the way to go, or whether I should splash out on an HVL58.

With the excellent little HVL20 as my on-camera flash trigger (I'm pretty sure it can't be used off-camera), I don't need the HVL58 to perform that task. What I don't know is whether the HVL58 will still be able to offer its 'ratio' function with the HVL42 when used off-camera. It would be useful if it could, but does anyone know?

(I tried posting this earlier but seem to have failed, so apologies if you've read this before!)

Thanks

Alan

The HVL-20 can be used to trigger the 42 and 58 sam.

The 58 as I understand will give you ratio control as long as it is the commander (ie. connected to the camera). You will not be able to use the 20 as a trigger of your remaining flashes with ration control.

A side note, that I assume would work, would be to use some synch cable to get the 58 of the camera and still have command capabilities.

I hope to be in a position to test sometime next week when my 58 arrives.

Thanks for your responses. I found an HVL42 on Ebay at a good price and it should arrive in the next day or two. If I can figure out how to post images, I'll let you know how I get on!
