« on: July 01, 2015, 04:48:03 PM »
this weekend I am going to find some hummingbird moths and will be using an external flash to try and freeze the movement of the wings.

can anyone please tell me how to use high speed sync with my Nissin flashgun

thanks in advance

Gorden,

I don't know how to enable it on the Nissin, but my recollection is that with the Sony I have to both enable HSS on the flashgun, and set the camera to manual to allow em to select a higher shutter speed.

It is difficult to explain to white mice that black cats are lucky...

thanks for the reply Faldrax.

I dug out the cd that came with the gun and it says to use shutter priority and use what ever speed I like.

Also, if I use the TTL section on my gun, I can set HSS and use any shutter speed I like.

As I aim to `try` and stop the movement of the wings, I shall give it a go at 1/8000.

I can also use full manual and let the gun adjust the light output for correct exposure.

will post the results here if I get any thing worth while

When using HSS at 1/8000 sec the range of flash coverage will dramatically reduced (a few cm) and you will need more flashes (more than one) to right expose your subject....... or....... you have to place the flash next to your subject and trigger it wireless or with radio trigger frequency if you have to be far away from you flash.

thanks for that Rex, never knew that......

I plan to use the Tamron 90mm, so may have to shoot at around 1/1000- 1/2000

might even pump up the ISO , maybe around 800
