Title: 5600HS or 3600HS?
Post by: annaiso on February 05, 2006, 07:43:52 PM
firstly hello i haven't been on this site in ages, some of u know that i got my computer pinched and it took ages to sort out the insurance but i finally have a new computer!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also this year has not gone off to the best of starts but that is another story.
Anyway to the point, ive read god knows how many reviews on flashguns for the 7D and all basically say that the 5600HS and the 3600HS are both rubbish, can someone please help? I desperately need to buy one but am unsure which flash to get .

I get along with the 3600; want to buy another one, for twin flashes.

the 5600HS and the 3600HS are both rubbish,

I use the 5600HS with no problems. I do agree that many others do have problems, but I'd hardly call the flashes rubbish!

The real problem is that the 7D may not be properly calibrated for the flash and KM will recalibrate your camera for free. Now that KM are getting out of the business, I'm not sure what the situation is.

Why I do not have problems may be just blind luck that my camera was calibrated correctly. I used it for some time with my Maxxum 7 film camera before using it with my 7D. I am not aware of any flash, by any other manufacturer, that is guaranteed to work as well as the 5600HS(D), 3600HS(D) flashes, or to even work at all. Remember that the Minolta cameras have a proprietary shoe.

I don't know what reviews your reading that say the flashes are rubbish. This is not my experience. I have read mostly good reviews. The few that were not good were by people that either did not devote the time to learn how to use the flash with digital, or simply did not know what they were talking about. Here's just one example of a reputable review.

Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. There are a million experts out there on the INTERNET, all making claims, just like me. :0)

thankyou both for the advice, the reviews i was reading was from other digital forums. Still unsure which one to get but i suppose it comes down to the cost for me at the moment and i know the 3600 is the cheapest, keep trying to find some on ebay but having no luck yet.

Ive got the 3600 and it works fine with my 7D if you ever do decide to get the 3600 of 5600.

check out www.warehouseexpress.com (http://www.warehouseexpress.com) fast delivery and slightly cheaper

 The cheap $%^&£*@ that I am, I'll be snubbing my nose at both 5600 and 3600, and going for the 2500 (D) instead. The thing is, I've never heard of 'having your camera caliburated for your flash' (or vice-versa).

In the coming days or weeks I'll be ordering an aSweet (aka 5d), should I ask them to do this caliburation before I get it? What does this involve?

I don't think the calibration problem effects the 5D, only some of the 7Ds.
