I called Sony and was told after a very frustrating conversation, that the new flash isn't guaranteed to work with the Minolta Cameras.  The person I spoke with kept putting me on hold and checking with someone else, so I don't know how accurate her information is.

Well, I wouldn't expect it to be guaranteed to work with all minolta cameras (dating back years).

I'd expect (but not absolutely assume) that it would work with 7D & 5D, just like I'd expect (but not assume) that the 3600 hsd & 5600 hsd would work with the A100.

After all the Sony models are close to being straight reproductions of the 5D & 5600 with nice new SONY badges. Yes, there are some differences, but I would think SONY would be careful enough to make sure they can retain existing KM customers by retaining compatibility - we're their foot in the door of the lucrative dSLR market.

It's frustrating that the person you spoke to wasn't properly on top of it, but clearly they're still finding their feet with the product range - most of which hasn't even hit the streets yet, after all. Won't be long before all of this is much clearer.

Having said that, I'm not planning on being the very first to find out... :D

that's one of the great advantages of forums like this - word of mouth & shared experiences :)

Having sat through their recent hour long "Webinar" and learnt almost nothing new, one of the few definite statements to come from Sony was that the 5600HS(D) and the 3600HS(D) are both "100% totally compatible with the A100".

Not sure if that works the other way round though ???

I assumed that everyone knew I was talking about the 7d, sorry for the confusion.  I was told by Sony that it wasn't compatable.  I called BH Photo since then and was told that it was fully compatable with the 7D and ADI.  I ordered one, will be here tomarrow with the guarantee if it doesn't work, I can send it back for a refund.

Mspohn, do you have the 5600hs? if so can you tell me if the external power outlet terminal is the same with the new sony version? I cannot get an answer from sony or any dealers. I spent an our and a half on the phone asking and explaining this to a sony rep yesterday and was left with an answer that she had noway of knowing if they were in fact the same.

No I don't, sorry.  That has been my delima, whether to buy for over 400 on ebay and take my chances or buy the new sony flash.  I would say it is the same, I can't imagine Sony re engineering the flash, probably just changed the name

I just opened my new Sony flash. I have taken about 20 shots while at lunch ranging from a dark shadowed room with no lights on at all to a well lit room and even a few outside.  So far, all have been perfect, no over or under exposures.  I will update throught the weekend.

Identical to the 5600hs in every way, I should have held off buying the 5600. (I spent $100 more for it than what I got the new sony for)
