Tamron Problem
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:01:24 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought a 90mm macro lens about 18 months ago after 6 months it developed an intermitant fault. (no apperture readout in viewfinder and unable to take pictures)

I sent it back and it was repaired FOC when it came back it was fine then 6 months later the same fault re-appeared it was 1 day out of manufacturer warrenty but it had a couple of days left on the guarantee for the repair.

so I contacted the manufacturer/repairer (Intro 2020) who agreed to repair it again FOC it was gone for about 2 months and when I phoned they said they couldnt find anything wrong and didnt have a camera to test it on eventually it came back working fine.
I used it about twice and it has gone again.
Now before I contact them I want to find out where I stand as I think I want a replacement because
If it goes again after 6 months I will have to pay I think (guarentee on repair lasts 6 months).
Im not entirely sure they can even find the problem let alone fix it (they appear to just test and clean).
The problems I can see is it being out of manufacturer warrenty but it went wrong within the warrenty and they have failed to repair the intermittant fault.
Am I entitled to new one?

I'm very sorry to hear your tale of woe. I think in your place I write a nice but firm letter to Tamron and hope they'd come up trumps. Have you had the opportunity to try the lens on another camera body?

You could email one or all of these people ... http://www.tamron.co.jp/en/corp/officer/index.html :)

You have a well-documented case of a faulty product and have right to ask for a replacement.

Good luck!!

Doesn't Tamron have a six year warranty?

As I understand British law regarding faulty goods I believe you can take the lens back to where purchased and demand a refund/replacement because said item not up to required standard. If the retail outlet refuses then inform them you will be contacting small claims court where they will certainly have to pay out more in costs etc. than if they met your claim up front. P lease check on my response to you prior to taking such action(s).

They are going to look at it and if they cant deffinatly repair the fault they will replace it.
I will say they have been very good and this makes me confident when purchasing tamron as after sales service is very important to me.

As I understand the law in the UK, specifically the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA, and I can't recall the year!) your warranty is with whoever sold you the goods in the first place. If it faulty and you accept the offer of a repair you have in effect accepted the goods and will not therefore be offered a replacement after that. It looks like Tamron and trying very hard to keep their customers, so good for them!!

I bought it from warehouse express and sent it back when it first went wrong it came back from intro 2020 it went wrong again 1 day out of my year warranty from warehouse express however it had 1 day left on the guarantee for the repair with intro 2020.
Warehouse express told me it would cost 80 pounds for intro 2020 to open it and have a look before the repair.
I contacted intro 2020 myself who don't charge at all but it is warehouse express who charge the 80 pounds.
So started dealing direct as warehouse express were very unhelpful.
