Sony 16-80 or Tammy 17-50 xr di-11
PhilBee:
I've not got the Tamron but I do have both the CZ 16-80 and the SAL 16-50. I've had the CZ for a few years and it was my favourite lens, however since i've had the A77 with the SAL lens it has stayed in my kit bag (in fact my daughter has now borrowed the CZ). I find that, for my main interest which architectural and building interiors, the SAL lens is much more flexible. Also I found the CZ could vignette at 16mm which the SAL does not do, and to me the SAL is a much quicker, quieter and better built lens. I have not missed the missing 51-80mm at all and I really thought I would!
I hope that helps!

Hi lindsay
I am in a similar situation, but I think I will go for the Tamron.........
just need to think about how much I will get for the 2 lens` it is going to replace.
linzthom:
I feel your pain, Gordon. I really do!!!
And now I've had my mind piqued by the good old 18-55 kit lens. I don't relly mind about not having a constant apature and the Tammy seems to need to be stopped down a stop or two. And the price.........oh the price is so much cheaper
Added to all this my short end is well covered by the 18-250 Sony I have.
Might just stay with the 18-250 and use the 70-300usd tammy for the sharpeness and reach and be done with it.

Finally. I made up my mind and went with the Tamron. Ordered it yesterday and it's on its way.
It will arrive in a day or so and then it's 'getting to know you' time with it.
If it's anything like the Tamron 70-300usd it'll be a great lens.

Lindsay,
Sounds like your Tammy will land long before mine ever will. The dreaded words "Back Order" are showing against my order, and although collect in store wasn't offered, I'm in negotiation with them to see if my order can be transferred to a store pick up....
