Title: Sigma and E mount
Post by: Gordon McGeachie on March 01, 2017, 04:02:04 PM
I see that Sigma have announced they will be making full frames lens` for the E mount.

Do they intend to reverse engineer the mount like they do with the A mount, or will they be properly licenced?

As far as I know from NEX (4 years) before FF and integration of E-mount lens as extension of A-mount Sony open the data base of E-mount to the 3rd party and this is one reason metabone started releasing adapter for Sony E-mount.

The same with Sigma. The MC-11 give more futures with A-mount lens on E-mount like Eye focus than the Sony LA3

As Rex said, I think Sony made E Mount an 'open' protocol, BUT having said that I know on the A6000, for example, some features are only available using Sony E Mount lenses, and not with the cheap Sigma E Mount Primes, so it's possible they have made part of the protocol public (and free to use), and then have advanced features only available under licence.
