Looking for a ultra wide angle zoom lens
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:25:31 PM »
Hi all

I'm in the market for a new ultra wide angle zoom lens. And have been looking at Sony, Tamron and Sigma I like to get some views from people who use the len on a day to day basis.

Thanks

Way back when I joined the forum and asked a similar Q I was directed to the Tamron 11-18 f4.5/5.6. I use it very rarely at the moment but when I have done I've found it very good.

For the Sony A700: Sigma 10-20
For the Sony A900: CZ 16-35; Sigma 15-30
I have all of the above and was and am very happy with them.

I have the Sigma 10-20mm that i use on both the a700 and a350, its a very good lens.

Although i have been thinking lately to change to the Sony 11-18mm due to having DxO, i would like to take advantage of the lens correction modules they have for that lens.

Only thing i would say about the Sigma, is don't go for the fixed f3.5 version, its a lot more expensive and i don't think you would ever gain any benefit for having that aperture anyway due to most times wanting the lens to be stopped down to get the sharpness.

I have the KM 11-18 and i am very happy with what this lens give me. For APS-C sensor i think is a very good lens.

For the FF sensor i will choose the KM 17-35 2.8 or the CZ 16-35.
