Lens hoods for Sony α / Minolta AF zoom lenses (SIGMA)
« on: June 24, 2010, 08:06:00 AM »
Hi... I searched the forum; forgive me if this is a question that has already been answered.

My Sigma zoom lenses (see signature) do not have lens hoods.

  • do Sony or Minolta brand hoods fit the grooves for a Sigma lens hood?
  • are there any other generic options that are actually recommended;
  • where is a good place/site to find these things easily?

Thank you very much! Glad I found this forum site.

welcome to the forum :D

generic ones will fit. sony ones probably will too, but will cost more.

main thing is to make sure you get the right filter diameter size

you can probably also get sigma brand hoods specifically for those lenses (but personally I'd opt for a generic ;))

Welcome from me too... hope you stick around.
I am sure you are far too sensible to get sucked in but I relate a funny story to you...
My wife uses my original Minolta 5D which came with a 18-70mm and 75-300mm kit lens.
The 18-70mm did not come with a hood but the hood from the 75-300mm fitted it.  Great piece of invention she thought one sunny shoot session when she fitted the hood to the short range lens.
The wide angle shots came with their own in camera circular vignette !!  A true story......john

hmmm... YAY! (or not so yay!) that's kinda crazy. i guess a lot of software can remove unwanted vignette, but still, that's too bad. when i was getting my generic lens hoods, and i asked, they said that telephoto vs wide doesn't really matter as far as the hood goes... but sounds like you have contrary proof! :) thanks for the welcome. take care, paul.
