A non sticky question
« on: November 11, 2017, 10:48:02 AM »
The rubber focussing ring on our Tamron 28-300 has come unstuck, can anyone suggest what we can use to remedy this please?

If it's non sticky, put some sticky on and replace it. I'm being facetious Gordon :D However. without being able to see the problem, then gluing it back on is the most obvious answer. I have done that some years ago with a Minolta lens without a problem. Again it depends on the lens and how it was designed. Is it a continuous ring without a joint? Is it a partial ring with gaps? or joints? Is it flat? narrow? wide? or shaped?

A picture of the lens would really help.

Thanks for coming back to me Ascot, the rubber grip ( on the zooming ring) is about 1 inch across and has come unstuck about 3/4 of the way around.

I was thinking about using super glue, but was curious as to what others use.

What I find strange is that my wife who uses this lens is reluctant to do so just for this minor issue, otherwise it is fine

Super Glue will do the job. Use the minimum amount to do the job. Another possibility is double sided carpet tape, not so permanent as glue but easier to adjust if you don't get it right first time.

Hi Guys :)

Is the lens still in warranty Gordon? Just wondering... If so I'd suggest getting in touch with Tamron to check out with them the best procedure. I realise it's easier to 'do yourself' and probably looking at that being a pain in the rear (time spent returning etc) but they may provide you with the proper stuff to use for the repair :)

All the best ;)

thanks guys, the lens is out of warranty as it is around 7 years old, will try a couple of drops of super glue which should do the trick.
