70-400GI Or 70-400GII ?
« on: May 27, 2013, 09:58:27 PM »
After using both lens  i can say the two lens are similar except the white colore vs silver. The GII is a little bit faster but indoor very nervous ( it can not lock immediately and give focus confirmation. The GI is slower but when it locks it Locks. From sharpens and CA i don't see any difference maybe the subject i am shooting is not suitable.

If you can find the GI in good price then get it, is no worth for the extra speed and white colore to pay 400 Euro more

That is a big price difference Rex.  What do you plan to now?  I presume you will not keep them both....john

Hello John yes the two lens probably stay under my House (my wife may keep it) other wise i will sell the version GI. I haven't sell anything in my life until now so if i sell the GI it will probably be the first lens.

I am a person that i don't like to give my lens for one event and get it back with some marks on it. Last year i gave my wife the 70-400GI for one event and when she came back home i have seen some marks on it(focus scale window) and lens body.

There is one friend also he is intersting for the lens..... i shall see ....

I am not a Milioner but also not pure so for the moment my wife's decision is in priority :) if she says she will use it then is her lens other wise i will put here or  eBay for sale.

Here is a very small country like one small town in a big country 600.000 population and in Lefkosia (capital) almost 300.000 population we don't have the chance to test something before we buy it. All my equipment is from Europe so even the GII must be bought to be tested. I am not sponsor by Sony or work for Sony .....
i am just a car mechanic that works about 12~14 hours per day and what i buy is always from my two hands :)

I've had my 70-400GI since it was put in protection and I've given it a very hard time in Ethiopia and Burma; it looks new thanks to Lenscoat... Only scratches are on the tripod attachment ring. And I will keep it following Rex's analysis!
