28mm f/2
« on: February 15, 2006, 11:48:59 PM »
OK guys (and Annaiso!),

Based on all of the incredible hype about the 28mm f/2, I went and bought a new one from B&H.  I had never had a 28mm prime until I bought the 28mm f/2.8 on ebay in early December.  I have taken a few rolls of film with the 2.8 and was REALLY impressed with how much better it performed than my old zooms did.

As impressed as I was, people on this and other forums continually trash the 2.8 as a good value for the money but a very average performer.  Photodo said better, but hey, all the people on these forums can't be wrong, can they?

I broke down and paid $269 for a new 2.0.  I sure hope everyone's advice turns out to be correct.  We will see in a few days.

Well dcap, I sure hope so.  You were one of the main contributors that fueled the fire to purchase it.  I bought new because the price was better than the circus on ebay and I know what I am getting.

Over on "another site" a member contributed head to head tests between the f/2 and f/2.8 and the differences between his two lenses was incredible.

If it ends up as good as you and he describe it, I will be very happy.

I'm only relaxed about dumping out and selling mine ... becuase I have another in the pipe-line from a little camera shop a few miles away with no website and dusty lenses.  I'm probably going to skip work at lunch tomorrow and take it off their hands for a steal!

Of the 60-70 lenses I've handled over the last 18 years, I count just 3-4 as standing out in a class of there own.  The 28/2 is one of them
