28mm f/2.8 mount question
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:08:51 PM »
Hi guys, just a quick one. I'm looking at getting the above lens as an add on to my 50mm f/1.8, just looking for something a little wider; I was just wondering if it has a metal lens mount? The 50mm f/1.8 is roughly the same price, but only has a plastic mount, perhaps I'm just being a little optimistic?! :) Or if not, perhaps there could be another lens to look at; bearing in mind I'm looking to spend any sort of serious cash! I've just bought 3 new fishing rods at over £1000!

Thanks in advance. Please be nice, I'm new here!

Regards, James

The minolta 28 is indeed a metal mount

The Minolta version is a metal mount; but what about the Sony version?

The Sony is a carbon copy of the Minolta 28mm apart from the coating on the glass and material used for the blades.

Lovely job. Looks like a lot of lens for the money then! :)

The lens is ok but nothing great especially on an APS-C sized sensor.  The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is sharper and it is a zoom.

On a full-frame it would be more useful.

I have been looking at the 17-50mm too as it happens. Might be a viable option! Cheers all!

The Tamron 17-50 is a great lens.  It takes a great image and it's pretty sharp at 2.8 and at f4, it's really nice all the way up.   Over the 28 2.8, i'd get the tamron.  If the 28 was the F2, i'd be trying to snatch that up instead as it's a great lens from what i have read (i have a minolta 35 f2 and it's AWESOME!)  But the 28 2.8, i'd get the 17-50 instead.
