Old clown
« on: March 07, 2011, 10:16:49 PM »
Hi,

This is (apparently) the world's oldest clown at 92 years old. I met the guy out of make up later in the day - he looked very frail, walked slowly with a stick and had scars on his head of the type following brain operations. But good on him for turning out in full gear for a parade through the town during the day.

He goes by the name of Garibaldi.

A350 with Minolta 50mm f1.7. Shot at ISO 100 1/2000s f3.5 on a sunny Sunday in Bognor Regis.

Hi,

Not specifically for the parade, it just happened to be on while we were there for the weekend. Looking at your ident pic, did you take part?

After the parade, a guy came up to us in Butlins and asked if we'd got any nice shots during the day, as it turned out I had got a noce shot of the very bloke that asked - Salvo. As we were chatting, I said I'd got a good shot of an old guy with a white face and blue eyebrows and he pointed to an old gentlemen about 20 yards away and said, that's him so we went and said hello.

If you were one of the clowns on parade, then thanks for the entertainment!

Richard

Hee hee, love the idea that I might be a local clown - I suppose I am but not a 'real' clown. I was there on Sunday with the local camera club. We tend to go every year. Salvo has a Flickr page with lots of clown portraits. He will give you names for your shots and seems a nice guy.

I like the shot of the old guy! It is very touching..perhaps more so because you told us his story. Good for him. The expression is deep...almost like he is thinking. "How many more parades for me?"

He looks a bit sad - it can't be all fun being that age and you've caught the irony of the moment very well.

I'm doing well here - I can look at this photo now. Bigbreakfast must have cured the photographic stage of my 'coulrophobia' ! (Fear of clowns) ;) :D

Nice you got to meet him too - and the other fellow.

Lovely portrait! Unbelievable that he still goes through the effort of putting on all of this make up. Real dedicated!
