Gran Prix Retro, Le Puy Notre Dame
« on: August 08, 2017, 05:20:14 AM »
Every year at the end of July, pre WWII oldies are invited to race in the Loire Valley, near Saumur. This year I attempted to capture face expressions in a tight curve...

Thanks, Cholly; It took close to 500 shots to get three or five that I really liked ! I was lucky, I was in a unique location thanks to an organizer !

Great shots - as Cholly said, very impressive panning to get the faces as sharp as you have.

I think I prefer the first two sets over the last couple of shots, as you get much more of a sense of motion to them.

Love the expression, etc on the first.

These are great and I love classic vehicles. My favorite is the first. It makes me feel I'm on a thrill ride. Wonderful action and focusing.

As the others have said, terrific panning skills on show as all the faces are spot on.
It must be a street circuit as there are a couple of bystanders on a porch in the background....john

Yes, it is a street city race. Every year, between 130-150 old pre WWII oldies and bikes congregate  in Le Puy-Notre-Dame (some 30 kms south of Saumur - France)  for a long WE. This was the 21st edition. Most of the owner/pilots come from the UK and France and actually focus more on talking about their cars and drinking wine than racing ! I was very lucky because one of the organizers let me stay behind a bale of wheat (protecting cars from a wall) in a sharp corner. I took over 500 shots and these are the best - but the others are good !

I imagine they races are even more exciting if held after the tippling!
