are these heavily processed?
or have you metered for the subject and let the camera make the shadows really dark?

either way i love them, they remind me of movie stills and just stand out so nicely.

Excellent work

Thanks Sandy.

I use an 18-200mm for my day shots and I interchange between a 28mm, 50mm and 100mm at night.  :)

Thanks Lyle. :)

Depends on how a person defines 'heavy' so you be the judge. :)

I use spot metering and I turn the DRO off to give me those shadows so they're already dark to begin with.  For the PP, I further darken the shadows with the Blacks and Lens Vignetting lever on Camera Raw until I get the desired effect.  Also, KMs give a sort of golden hue to its output so I seldom WB correct them because I just love nostalgic looking shots. :)

A very good series of candid shots. I'm looking forward to seeing more . The last time I was in Singapore was in 1967 so I hope to see some old familiar places (Tiger Balm Gardens  if still there) and indeed new ones too. Thanks for sharing your images.

Don't know how I missed this thread - I looked at the first couple of images but didn't realise you had added so many more. I love the fact they have a real sense of individuality and your own style. Excellent stuff and not subjects that we see enough off. Note to self - must try more candid work. Thanks a lot for sharing your work.

digitalpimp, Bigbreakfast is right as we look at one threat we don't think you add more pictures and we don't look again.

Better if you open a new one and rename it everyday people 1/2/3.... or a/b/c....

Very good pictures Bravo

I've noticed this thread keep repeating and have thought possibly others were just making comments but have had my curiosity aroused with the on going nature of it so visited at times to see what's happening.

I have been very pleasantly surprised to see other shots appearing and even more so now after calibrating my laptop LCD screen :) thumbs up :D

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)  Been very busy so I seldom visit the forum.  I hope it's alright with you if I post all my streets on here because I maintain more than 60 threads and segregating my shots on one forum would be the death of me. :D

So sorry.  Hope you understand. :)

I will repeat to some extent what others have said--you do have your very own stlyle with all your candid shots and I really like all your images and I will have to concentrate more on your thread(s) to keep up to date!!! Don't be tempted to change your style it's what makes your images so refreshing to look at.

Some great images there!  Well done & thanks for sharing.  Seeing this post makes me want to take issue with some of the guys in my camera club who insist on having no titles for images in our club competitions.  The title is so often the catalyst to appreciating what the author is trying to convey in an image - most of our judges are horrified by the lack of titles!  Your set just goes to show how important they are - don't get me wrong, your images are great, but the titles add something extra, give guidance about the content and help with the appreciation.

Could not have said it any better sir.  IMHO,  photos should be treated like paintings.  Sucky or not, they should have titles.  Each of us have our own individual interpretation to anything that we lay our eyes upon so by putting titles, we:  "give guidance about the content and help with the appreciation (of the medium) ~Bluebear.". :)

Just caught up here - I love the one of the person lying down on the wall!!  It's all a nice sneak peep at life in another country - and the 'city' theme is completely alien to me too. It reminds me of the very short time I lived in London in the 70s - 3 months was long enough for me!

Is 45 maligned?
He looks like a priest who you describe as "Oversize" and I don't understand this? It may be 'Lost in Translation' so I would really appreciate the explanation. He looks like my version of a 'Holy Man' but I'm not too sure if this is the case.

Hi Pat,

By oversize, I was referring to her shirt.  Yes, her. :)  She's a monk here in our neighborhood.  I don't think it's maligned in any way because I don't see any insult describing what she is wearing, but if you feel that it is so, I will gladly change the title.

I used maligned as a word (wrongly accused) because over here 'oversized' may mean 'fat' and this lady is obviously very slim! There is no offence, nor any need to changed titles.
All is clear now and it's nice to see that women are allowed to be priests there - if they want to be! The Church of England has only just allowed female Vicars but won't have them as Bishops.
No 49 is very descriptive - I can just see the way he was 'swaggering' along!

Thanks,

Pat

Whew!  Thought I was in trouble lol.  Anyway, I'm not really sure if these lady monks do what men monks do like preaching and stuff, but I sure hope so.  After reading a bunch of books about the Holy Grail and the "supposedly" anomalies in The Vatican, I figured, "Why the hell not?" I'm Roman Catholic, by the way.

It looks like on most you are darkening the corners with great effect, is this some kind of add-on for Aperture, cs4/5?.

Hi Eddie,  the effect is onboard our Alphas. :)

I made a tutorial on how to achieve this effect on another forum.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for visiting, John. I know the thread is getting a bit long.  I'm trying to maintain 60+ threads all over the web and to add some more would be the death of me.  For what it's worth, I'm still staying true to the theme which is street photography.  My apologies.

I think I must have missed several updates to this somehow - lots of great shots.

Thanks for the link to who you achieved the 'isolated' look to many of the images - it sounds simple from your explanation, but you are clearly a master of it.
You have a good eye to spot the right balance of light, etc. where a shot will 'appear'.

Thanks Pat.  That's the Samyang 8mm f3.5 Fisheye at work right there. Same lens used in #s 58, 60 and 61.  It's my current favorite lens.  At 8mm, it really forces me to engage with my subjects.

The black thing on the lower right corner of the frame is the flap of my Domke, so you can just imagine how close I was to my subject.  I was so close that he tried maneuvering his cargo away from me through that narrow alley just to get past.

I'm still feeling very uncomfortable getting very close and it's also evident from the frowns on their faces that the feeling is very mutual LOL.  Hopefully, I acquire the proper techniques as I go on.

Yea, I'd like to have my own exhibition someday.  Not letting myself down, but I don't think these aren't good enough yet.  I feel like I have something more to give (not bragging).   :)

How are you?  Sorry for the late reply.  For some reason, I can't login, and I'm listed as a banned member due to spamming(?).  Glad it's fixed now.

To answer your question, yea, I suppose we have that here (Singapore) as well.  I'll do some reseach on that.  I'm an expatriate so I only have the vaguest idea how they operate stuff around here.  I'm originally from the Philippines, by the way.

Thanks! Black parade means a procession for the dead.  It's the moment when you take the dead from the funeral home to the cemetery.  But I used this term literally. Black, being the predominant color of the photo, and parade, because she was... parading. :D
