Just registered be kind I have a Sony DSCH400 and has a very good zoom 63x I am looking for a better zoom can anyone come up with some suggestions for me please.
I seen something that said due to the lens some 20+ zooms can be as good as the 63x zoom not too sure can anyone assist please.
Just a amateur but was looking at the nikon p900 for a good zoom.
Welcome Steve, we hope you get some useful tips from the folks around here.
Personally, I am not particularly familiar with Bridge cameras but all gear has pros and cons and is built to a price point. Because you have a bridge camera with fixed lens, jumping from brand to brand is not a problem if you find something from another manufacturer that suits you better.
Should you decide to step into the interchangeable lens camera market, then you need to do your homework and choose a brand as most lenses from one manufacturer will not easily fit other brands.
now to your question:-
In zoom, you need to read carefully the claims as there is optical zoom and digital zoom. Optical zoom is provided by the lens and digital zoom is electronic "trickery". Make sure that you are comparing like for like. Digital zoom will never equal optical zoom......john
Thanks for taking the time to reply and explain. Yes it's a optical zoom that I am after no loss of quality then. I will have a good luck over some post brush up on things.
I would also look at the Sony RX10 MkIII
It's 'only' a 24x zoom (24-600 equivalent), but has a much larger sensor so should have better IQ than the Nikon (which has the same sized sensor as your existing Sony).
It's not cheap though!
Thank you I will have a look cheers for the input
