I too the plunge last night and removed the mirror from my a33 and I will be going out this afternoon and trying to see how it (and I) perform with manual focussing and some evening shots.

I did not take the experiment very far and last week having looked at the camera I decided to risk doing a sensor clean and also cleaning the mirror and reinstalling it which has resulted in a useful backup camera.
