Camera Clubs
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:41:06 AM »
Hi all,  i am not a member of a camera club, but have been thinking about joining our local club. Interested to know how many on here are members of clubs and do you find it worth it. What sort of things generally do camera clubs undertake. Interested to know your thoughts.  Cheers Brian

Hi Brian

I'm not a member of the local camera clubs as I don't have the time to get involved. I've been to a few meetings now and then and have found them interesting and informative. Each time I've been it's cost a couple of £'s as a donation to the club funds. I think most clubs allow non members to attend so they get an idea of what goes on and gives a chance to see if you want to join.

Some of things that happen are talks by some of the more knowledgeable members as well as some 'named' photographers, in-club competitions, trips to some places and inter-club competitions of clubs in the area. A great deal of things to try to get the inspiration going.

I'd recommend you contact your local club and see if you can attend a couple of their meetings to see if you want to join and ask for them to add you to the email list so you get details of up and coming future meetings.

Good luck.

Mrs C and I have been members of Southern Suburbs Photographic Society since 2007 and I have been membership officer since 2011.
You can look us up on the web and get a feeling of activities.
I am also one of the presenters on our skills development nights ( details of which are behind the member login)
As to finding it worthwhile, we would not continue if it was not worthwhile.

I have found clubs (in my area) to be a funny bunch. Some nice people, some keep to themselves and some rather rude snobby folks.

I tend to head out with one of two good friends when I get chance now, like minded and good conversation maybe with a pint at the end.

I would say go along, we can all add out opinions but at the end of the day you will the only one who will truly know.
