Sony start making things that make me think if is worth to stay with Sony :(.

Why me the owner of the alpha system to require an adapter to use my current flash line and not make an adapter for the future flash units and new owners :(

From Sony SAR (Sony a rumors)

"First, the a99 sports a standard ISO hot-shoe! Finally I can say!!! They built a very compact adapter to fit current alpha flashes onto the A99 hot-shoe. The ISO adapter mounts very similar to a Nikon flash, where you slide in the hot-shoe and then turn a lever to securely lock it into place. This means in the future, Sony’s new flashes will be using the standard ISO hot-shoe. Death of the alpha plastic hot-shoe!"

Hmm... 'dual focus': flip up translucent mirror with contrast and phase detection being the two focusing systems? That would fix the only bad thing with the SLT technology: loss of the 1/3 stop at high ISO.

I spoke again today with the trust friend about the a99 after the rumor that the a99 will have the ISO flash socket and asked him again to explain what kind of ISO shoe/socket is this one. Does it have a relation with the old ISO shoe or with Canon/Nikon compatibility.

He said this is a brand new shoe from Sony and has nothing to do with the older one that all the other manufacture use. The reason Sony change it is to have the ability to attach microphone, lights etc and control them threw the shoe like they did with the Nex serie.

The big problem now is that the new nex6 is going to have these type of shoe/socket and all upcoming models from Sony will use this type
. :(

About nex5R he don't remember what type of shoe is going to have but probably also the new one.
So the new flash shoe it will be a socket not only to control flash or to attach a microphone but it will be a multi purpose socket.

For us with the old system we may have to buy this adapter if we want to use the nex6 or a99 with our current flash line :(

I do not mind an adaptor so long as the 58AM will work.  john

Yes, the A99 is Full Frame (it's one of the things that everyone agrees on!).

There are rumours that it will be followed by a 36mp FF model in Q1 next year.

First pictures from a99. What suprise me is the AF Range button

This is a must for me. Like on the SAL300G you can customize and program the range the AF module have to work. Hope the drawing picture is reflecting the reality :)

Thanks Rex for the link. I have to say though that I am really sitting on the fence regarding the upcoming 36mp camera that should arrive in 2013. I have followed the discussions re the performance of the Nikon D800 closely as it has the same sensor as the "promised" Axx that should come out next year. I believe for studio. portraiture and landscape the 36mp camera might be very useful. In day-to-day photography though I think a 24mp camera is more than enough. I have seen some absolutely outstanding shots from the D800 and I have seen a lot of crap as well. A camera with so many mps is IMHO not a camera that you can use as a point and shoot camera. Much more, I do consider those kind of cameras in the medium format league, something that requires a considered approach, i.e. tripod, very good lenses and so on. When used in that manner I think the results are superb.

So I am not sure what to really make of the A99???

Stef probably the most insightful post ever, although off topic, I read it as " to get the best out of your equipment slow down, see it compose, check settings and correct, look again and capture" too many times we rush a shot when there is time or take multiple photos in the hope of one good photo, not always possible but 95% of the time you can relax and this is where the big improvements in quality and composition just seem to work,
