A published photographer (and author)
« on: June 14, 2007, 10:13:00 PM »
Well.... by the end of tomorrow, I will officially be a published photographer!

I have an article in this month's Digital SLR User magazine here in the UK.  Twenty five hundred words on photographing wildlife in captivity and 17 photos to go with it.  I think the local WH Smiths is going to run out of copies real fast (I'm probably buying 10 to send to my family is Australia:)

Cheers

Mark

Thanks all, it's a great feeling.  And a good start to what I hope will eventually be work as a professional photographer.  I even managed to include a plug for the Alpha.

It's a good feeling, isn't it..?

I submitted a macro shot of a strawberry to a local restaurant guide.  They asked if I had any more - and last month a fruit salad of mine was the front cover!
This month I photographed a professional model with a pudding in Harvey Nicols (over the 'free agency photographer'), and one of those shots is the front cover in June's edition - http://www.bitepublishing.co.uk - and a shot from a selection taken at a Japanese restaurant [shot specifically because the Editor suggested me] will hold prime position as a cover shot next month.
And the Editor/Publisher and I wandered about the Channel4/Taste show in The Meadows in Edinburgh, last week - and one of those shots is to be the cover for August.

And to think I thought myself a landscape photographer!  Next month I'm shooting a wedding at the Edinburgh Marriott - which was booked before Christmas: have I missed my calling?

Great to hear Mark. I'll have to pop down to the newsagent and have a look.

and Nikwatt too, maybe you have missed your calling. It's great how one photo can end up snowballing into a lot more work.

If you have any tips and advice on getting published and the type of things to think about, then don't be shy to posting them on this forum :)

Nikwatt,

Great to hear, glad you are doing well.

I've just found out that although I thought the magazine came out on the 15th, it's actually the third thursday of the month which is the 21st (as late as it can be) this month.

Thanks again to all for their good wishes.

Cheers

Mark

Well, this morning as the magazine finally came out. They've reordered things a bit and polished the text a little, but it's my words and my shots and I feel great.

I don't think you could wipe the smile off my face this morning without surgery:)

Regards

Mark

Only just spotted this myself!!!  Will go and buy a copy.

Is the copy in question July or August? (or even September!)
