Title: Sony Digital Camera Forums
Post by: Clive on August 08, 2013, 05:19:49 PM
The forum has a new name: Sony Digital Camera Forums

Dynax Digital was deemed to be out of date as Dynax has not been used as a camera name for years.

Comments welcome.

In general I don't mind about the name, the content of the forum is more important.

The Dynax Digital was more ... dynamical, and Sony Digital Camera is little bit ... dull/ho-hum ... but it is honest and as Clive said more of present day.

My concern with the new name is that is sounds rather 'Official' - IE the name implies that this is Sony's Digital Camera Forum, rather than a forum that is dedicated to Digital Cameras by Sony.

I am with Faldarx but maybe the new name attract more new members since today we have only Sony cameras and no more Dynax

The general feeling is that Dynax isn't something many people are looking for nowadays and to help a little with search engine optimisation, a more suitable name was chosen to try and help make the pages more relevant to what people are searching for. "Sony digital camera" is actually quite a popular search term for this niche.

Yes, it could be mistaken for an official Sony site in name, but I am planning a few minor tweaks to the site which will help make it clear it is independent.

More people finding the site is good, so I hope the name change works - my concern was that some Lawyer would feel obliged to try and grab some fees from Sony by hassling you over the name!

Will there be any change to the URL?

The url will stay the same for now. It would be a massive task to get all the relevant redirects in place to make sure bookmarks and the already indexed pages in google still work.

It has been considered in the past but for the above reason it's been left as is.

Would it mean any SONY camera owner will be welcome or only with Alpha tag?

We accept any Sony camera, including the Point and Shoots. Even Canikons would qualify if the exif was removed, how could we tell the difference? :D

Hehehe... then I'd start posting my Fujifilm X-S1 pics without EXIF ;-)
