Posting issues :(
« on: February 26, 2015, 12:59:35 PM »
Any one else finding a problem when posting a new thread or reply?

I had one thread post three times with out knowing it had done so: selecting the [Post] box just had the computer showing 'busy' and 'waiting for www.dynaxdigital... in the bottom left hand corner. Doing refresh and [Post] again + again and then selecting the top link then showed the post listed three times.

My second posting showed 'busy' when selecting [Post] BUT when I then selected the 'link' showing the area I was posting to (example with this post; Sony Digital Camera Forums » General Chat - not just photography » Dynax Digital Forum Site Comments » Start new topic and select: "Dynax Digital Forum Site Comments" I go back to the list of threads and find the post showing!

I've talked to Garry about this problem. I sent him this on Feb 22nd:

Garry, I posted a topic and it apparently did not load, instead it came up with a Gateway Time-out error. I expected that to happen as it has happened a few times lately, so when I clicked 'Post' I quickly opened another Tab on my browser and checked. Sure enough it had posted OK. The timeout came about three minutes after hitting the 'Post'. Can you please look into this?

Garry's reply:

Time outs are something i'm trying to sort out. It's a combination of the forum code and the server I use. At the moment, unless I put more money into the hosting I don't think there is a lot I can do, but I am looking at options. Maybe a stickied post about this issue for now just in case other people do run into the same thing.

So Frank, if you encounter this problem again do as I did, open another tab in your browser and check. It will probably have posted OK the first time. I removed your excess posts.

Thanks Charles (Ascot) for giving that work round - hadn't thought of doing a 'new' tab/window. I'll keep that in mind should/when it happens again ;)

I had it happen before - that other thread I ended up 'posting' about four times and had to ask for them to be deleted - I don't remember the date off hand - would need to check back through but it's not that important now :-)

Hi strontium; I know what you mean... thinking it was just something to do with me and my computer when it happened before but felt I needed to check if others had a similar problem at some time - just to clear up if it was 'me' or not

I have also had this happen a few times now and have used the workaround charles mentions after the first time it happened. Only happens on new posts rather than replies to posts though.

Knowing about it, I just delete 2 of the 3 when I see them and do not make a fuss....john

Any further in resolving the posting/replying issues?

Anyone NOT posting because of it?

The problem is still there. When John or I see duplicate posts we just delete them, it just takes a few seconds. The only thing we have to be careful of is when more than one of the posts has had replies. In that case we would have to combine these into one post and delete the others. That takes longer.

Another thing about this posting issue is that it only occurs when starting a new topic.
