For Sale Board
« on: September 05, 2011, 02:49:21 PM »
I've only recently reached the required number of posts to enable access to the 'for sale' board. Purely out of curiosity I looked back at some of the items that have sold over the past few months.

Result? I'm just a bit 'brassed off' when I saw what I've missed. Sure, like many I've bought things off fleabay but you're never quite sure if your auction win is going to be okay. So far I've come a cropper on a couple of items although most have been okay.

The point I'm trying to make without going too far around the houses is,  how much nicer it would have been to buy from like minded individuals who look after their equipment.

So, in a couple of years when your A77 is old hat and you're thinking of  upgrading............

Just as an afterthought; the more you put into the forum, the more you'll get out of it!

Les.

Not got to the magic 25 myself yet Lez60 so can't see the board, but inclined to agree with you re buying off like minded individuals, in many respects it would be nice if 'newbies' could see the For Sale board, but perhaps not be able to post until 25 posts had been met.

Still daresay the moderators have their reasons, so can't complain really - just more incentive to get to the magic 25!

There are many reasons why this has been set up like it is and there is a detailed discussion from a while ago giving the many reasons why. To see the thread Look here

Hmmm, it appears my comments were taken as a criticism: far from it, I was merely attempting to point out that had I found and joined the forum after buying my first Sony DSLR I could have had a few 'desirables'.

The posting requirement is fine, I'd read the thread in Rob's link previously and fully agree with the numbers requirement.

Still, the main thing is, I found it and hopefully will be posting for many years to come.

I agree with your comments lez60 I happily paid a bit more than I would possibly on ebay for a lens recently, and would definitely do it again, buying from someone who has posted on this forum gave me a real confidence in what I was buying knowing they had a passion for photography and seeing their images and thoughts, I didn't feel I was taking a chance that it would be ok like you do with the auction sites, definitely a big plus from me

Your comments weren't taken as a criticism, i posted the link to the thread as it answered your questions and hopefully some others.
Perhaps i should have answered the question when i had more time to do so. I thought the link was a quick way of doing this as i knew it had been asked before so thought it was the quickest and easiest way of doing so.

Yes, in an ideal world it would be good for all members new or established to be able to access the for sale board. But the decision wasn't taken lightly when the moderation team decided on the action. Personally i think its better that someone has perhaps missed an opportunity to purchase some equipment that one or more people being conned and loosing money.

Hope this explains it better.
