customisable viewing
« on: November 06, 2011, 09:51:25 PM »
Dear Mods,
Would it be possible to have a small range of customisable viewing selections when opening the site?
At the risk of being verbose...
What I would like to see is
"All new topics started in the last ( day, 2 days, week).
" All threads to which you have not responded"
"unread posts since last visit"

If you jump on for a quick read and plan to add a comment when more time is available- finding the thread again is (for me) not easy.
Outlook and I suspect other mail programs allow you to flag an item for follow up or flag it as important.

Rantings of an old bugger... I agree but if you do not ask you will never know if it is possible and there are some Very clever computer folks around on here (suck suck  )    john

Hi John,

Not really possible.
I can't tell you how much time I've spent searching the modification packages for these boards (but my wife can! :-[ ), and what you're suggesting is not really available. Small parts are, but they don't play well together.

To do something that even begins to resemble the functionality you describe (which is appealling), we'd need to change the entire platform we're on to a v-bulletin board (with a cost of ~ $500), and the entire setup of the forum would be changed dramatically - and as recent feedback has shown, people don't always like change. It's also a HUGE task - far more than I can afford the time for without taking the forum offline for weeks (months) to complete.

What I do in these instances is hit the 'NOTIFY' button - that way I get sent replies etc to the thread, even though I haven't posted yet. These serve as reminders/bookmarks to get back to the thread :)

Thanks Michael.  I admit I have never used notify.  Nobody has posted to my link for the review of A65.  If I find that and hit "notify" can you or somebody reading this just send a response?
