Why I loose EXIF in PSE11?
« on: November 16, 2012, 05:41:32 PM »
Found it better to resize the images in PSE11 usinf "Save for web..." option than PMB Conversions. The Flickr image size remains about the same as I resize in PSE11.

However, I loose the EXIF in the image after resize!! How do I resize without loosing the EXIF? I checked the >Edit>Preferences but couldn't find any option for this. Opened a file and opened the "Save for web..." but did not find any option here too.

Are you sure it is the resizing? I don't have elements, but I am pretty sure that PS looses Exif when you use Save For Web. Just use Save.

I am not sure what colour space and bit depth you work in Subbu but "save as" as Harvey says works.  Just make sure you convert to sRGB in the edit menu and bit depth has to be 8....john

If you have personal information in your exif you may not want to share it with the world. I think that is why 'Save For Web' removes the exif.

I think that 'Save for web...' strips the EXIF because it does everything it can to make the file smaller to decrease upload/download time. - Terry

You may be correct, however what I said is still a valid reason to not have the exif in the photo.

When saving for the web you can make the photo as small or as large as you want, within the .jpg range of compressions.

Thanks for the replies.

John - I never gave a thought about bit depth and things. Was just working on default. Maybe I'd try "Save as" instead of "Save for Web".

'Save for Web' has always stripped EXIF in PSE as far as I know.

Much better to use 'Save as', and decide for yourself how much compression you are prepared to accept (I'm assuming the save dialogue in PSE 11 has a similar size estimator to earlier versions, so you can see the effect before you actually save the file).

Played around with PSE 11 saving options.

"Save for web" is one step reduction tool but strips EXIF :-( . You can choose pixel and quality in one go.

With "Save as" option first need to Resize to required pixel size and then choose quality thereby the size.
