rgb to Srgb help
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:53:39 PM »
Is there a way to convert multiple pictures from rgb to srgb? kind of a batch process.

The reason being, when i first started using photoshop and not being used to the digital scene i saved a lot of my pictures in the rgb profile and sending them off to be printed online becomes a pain to convert them one by one back to srgb.

Hi Lee,

Not sure if it works for colour spaces but you could try Photoshops automation. Basically you can run though the action once with photoshop recording what you do, then you can use the automation within photoshop to carry out what you recorded on multiple files.

This may help http://morris-photographics.com/photoshop/tutorials/actions.html

I use the automation function to resize and add information to the file data. Saves so much time.

Duddits- yes there are various ways of doing a quick batch conversion. What version of PS are you on?

Lee, first method is to record an action in CS4. See the darkroom technique section on this forum I have put a tutorial up there some time ago. Once you have recorded your action you can either put all the images in one folder that need conversion and in CS4 go to filde -> automate -> batch -> find your action and specify the folder or you can go to Bridge: tools -> photoshop -> batch and do the same. The difference between Bride and Photoshop is that for PS you have to put all the files in a folder before or you have to choose them manually which is sometimes tricky due to the smal thumbnails while in Bridge you just need to ctrl/cmd click all the images you want converted.

Alternatively: in PS: file -> save for web and devices: there is a little click on the right hand side which says: converts to sRGB; if you record an action by just opening up one image and immediately clicking: file -> save for web and devices than you save yourself the pain to record an action for the conversion part. This might not work withhuge image files though!

Now...the fastest way is: open up Bridge-> choose all the images that you want to convert either by ctlr clicking them or by select all command -> tools -> photoshop -> image processor -> click under file type: "convert profile to sRGB" and voila you are done.

You are wondering why I put this tip down at last? Welll- for most of the other stuff you might want to do in batch processing you do actually need an action but not for this one ;)

Hope this helps?

Lee,

No probs, I know Stef and some of the others on here have posted some pretty useful photoshop guides.
