Elements 6 and ARW Files
« on: December 04, 2012, 11:01:21 AM »
Does anyone know if the Raw files from the a65 are editable in Elements 6? I had no problem with them from my a700 but it doesn't seem to recognise the files from my a65.!! I've got the Sony Image Data Convertor software that came with the camera but I do prefer elements as its what I'm used to.
Thanks in advance
Garry

Adobe offer a free dng converter this will convert the sony arw raw file to the adobe standard format and then you will be able to open and edit them in pse

hope that helps

Hi Garry, maybe this will help you.

This link indicates the minimum Camera Raw plug-in version required.  For the A65 it is ver. 6.5.

http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

This second link indicates the  ACR version compatible with PSE versions.  It appears that for PSE6 you can only access ACR ver. 5.6.

Thanks for your replies, I've tried downloading the appropriate plugin but not having much success.!! Probably me doing something wrong but will persevere and will probably end up upgrading to Elements 11 soon.....More expense :-)

Try the DNG converter as suggested by Rick. I have the same problem with my A77 files and PSE.  It's a bit time consuming having to convert the files, but I set it to convert a batch then leave it to it for a while and it works just fine.  I want to upgrade to Lightroom, going to have to wait a little while yet though ;-)

As KAP mentioned, the ACR plug-ins are only compatible with certain versions of PSE, and support of PSE 6 ended several years back.

Fortunately upgrades to PSE are not that expensive (compared to lenses, etc), and you will see severla useful additions when you move up from 6.

I have an A580 andPSE6 which can not be made to read the A580s raw files.
I just use Adobe DNG Converter ( free download) to take the files from my SD card and puts the files straight into an appropriately named file as DNGs, usually on my desktop. Given that files have to be transferred from the SD card to your computer in any case the process is not onerous.
Cheers
Jeff

Hi Sorry to bump this thread, but thought it better than starting a new one.
I have Elements 8, and I can't get it to open the RAW files from my A77. Do you need to pay for the latest version 11?
thank you for any help.
