ACR help
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:46:12 PM »
Hi all,
I am currently working on a used Mac laptop (powerbook G4) using CS3 and Bridge. I had used this set up with no problem until about a month ago when the plug-in port on the side of the mac went bad and the computer was dead for about a month. I just got it fixed,so I opened some freshly loaded photos today. Now for the problem: I can open Bridge and photoshop fine, and when i click on raw photos (from my a700) it automatically starts making the adjustments i have established in ACR, BUT when i right click on a photo to open it in ACR, the drop down menu does not even offer ACR as an option anymore, only preview (set as default). I can't find it anywhere! Anyone know what is the matter?

I did try replacing the ACR update manually but that did not work.

Thanks,
Amie

It's a file association issue.

Go to any RAW file, right click and choose 'Get Info' (or hit Command-I)

go down to the 'Open with' panel (if collapsed, click on the little triangle to expnd it)

If ACR is shown in the list of programs you could use to open it, select it then click change all.

IF ACR is not shown (more likely) choose Other... A new dialog opens with the Applications folder - go to ACR and choose it, Add it to recommended programs (use the button). The go back and select it and click Change all. Done.

Stef I downloaded the 4.6 as i still use cs3.
Fother I went to bridge and clicked on a raw file. I then tried command I and nothing happened. I right clicked and "get info" was not one of my options. Other thoughts?
Thanks!

Amie, fother is off on a weeks vacation now and I can't help as I use Vista. I do agree with fother that the problem is a file association issue. Typical of any operating system. Perhaps someone with a Mac can advise you on how to correct it or you could try a search for 'change file association' in help on your computer.
