A9oo RAW and LR 3 default settings
« on: February 11, 2011, 03:01:51 AM »
Moving to take on everybodies advice about shooting in raw, I was surprised to find that LR applies default settings for just about every adjustment it can handle. Seems to me this negates some of the "shoot in RAW argument".
Am I right, and what is the purpose, just to shortcut my processing, or is there another reason?
Thanks you

You can apply default adjustments for any given camera, or any given body - if you have 2 a900s and want to adjust one slightly differently, eg because it underexposes slightly, you can account for that. Or you can not do anything like that. It's an option. Doesn't replace actual processing, and isn't really relevant to the shooting in RAW vs JPG question, other than that RAW allows for far finer and broader adjustments.

(by the way you don't need to write your website address in your posts - it's already in your signature and also on your profile info to the left of your post ;))

Thanks for your reply Fother. Appreciated. Still trying to work out to eliminate those default adjustments. Will keep trying, so far all I've done sems to have had no effect.
cheers

By default it does not adjust anything. I think you might mean that as the images are imported they change from the initial previews - this is not an adjustment, but I'd replacing the camera's previews ( which are small previews which, by definition, have some minor adjustments ) and replacing these with proper previews based on the underlying raw file
